Neung-sur-Beuvron and its heritage
The village of Neung-sur-Beuvron, just a stone’s throw from the campsite, invites you to discover its rich past. Stroll through the peaceful streets and stop off at the church of Saint-Denis, a charming building that tells the story of the local history. Ideally situated for discovering the remarkable Châteaux of the Loire, it was also the birthplace of a wealthy population under Napoleon III, fond of hunting parties and salons, who today leave behind some sublime buildings for you to admire. For a gourmet anecdote: it was in this village that the ‘Aristocrate’ biscuit was born at the end of the 19th century, which you will have the pleasure of tasting with your tea!
Chambord Castle
Located around twenty kilometres from the campsite, the Château de Chambord, a jewel of the French Renaissance, is one of the most emblematic Châteaux of the Loire Valley. Built during the reign of François I in the 16th century, its unique architecture is a blend of medieval influences and Renaissance innovations. With its 440 rooms, 365 fireplaces and famous double spiral staircase, this majestic palace reflects the grandeur and ambitions of its era. Nestling in the heart of a forest estate of over 5,000 hectares, the Château de Chambord is also an ideal place for walks and for observing the local wildlife, an activity to be enjoyed by all the family! Open all year round, you can also take advantage of the temporary exhibitions on display in the building.
Cheverny Castle
Not far from the campsite, another Sologne architectural marvel! The Château de Cheverny, in the heart of the Loire Valley, is a magnificent example of 17th-century classical architecture. Renowned for its elegance and refinement, it boasts a richly furnished and perfectly preserved interior, offering a glimpse of French aristocratic life through the centuries. Still inhabited by the same family for over 600 years, Cheverny has an authentic, living charm. The estate also boasts extensive landscaped grounds, a vegetable garden and a kennel with dozens of hunting dogs, perpetuating the tradition of royal hounds. This castle will probably speak to you: it inspired Hergé to draw the famous Château de Moulinsart. An exhibition is devoted to this mythical Tintin character.
La Ferté Saint-Aubin Castle
Typical of the region, Château de la Ferté Saint Aubin, in the heart of the Sologne, is a charming 17th-century château with an authentic family atmosphere.
